The trees are blooming and my camera is ready. It has been a long time since the grass was green and leaves were on the trees. I will be off to taking pictures in the next few weeks and getting ready for my first Wine in the Woods in Columbia, MD. Over 25,000 people attend this two day event. I am so excited. I was invited to be an artisan this year. I am not sure what to expect, but hope it will be successful. I hope to see some of followers there. I am planning my next trip to Longwood Gardens, Williamsburg and Charleston to take more pictures. I think the entire east coast will welcome spring. Less than a month later, I returned. Well into autumn, the grounds have begun to lose their blooms as the attention is drawn indoors to the conservatory. This huge enclosed area is home to seasonal floral and yesterday it was thousands of Chrysanthemums of every variety and color. Yesterday was the beginning of the Chrysanthemum Festival with judging of the best blooms taking place by official judges and amateur garden enthusiasts alike [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><font size="4">Previously I had blogged about a visit to Longwood Gardens. The colony lasted less than three years and remains a mystery worthy of discussion by the History Channel and his [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><font size="5">A week ago, I visited the Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island, the Lost Colony in North Carolina</font>. <font size="5">Even though autumn was upon us, the gardens were lovely with statues, fall color and symmetrical gardens. Located right on the water between the Outer Banks and the main land, this charming area once, the first colony settled by the English is well inhabited today with homes and shops. The colony lasted less than three years and remains a mystery worthy of discussion by the History Channel and historians alike, offers a nice get away from the beach for a day trip. There was even a wedding rehearsal going on during my visit. It is a dog friendly garden to visit. Dogs are $3.00 each, but our dogs found it too stimulating as they attempted to bark and chase the squirrels. What a wonderful place. We spent 6 hours walking the pathways around well manicured and colorful gardens. The vivid colors of the mums and orchids;the various sizes and shapes of pumpkins and the autumn leaves decorated the country home of the DuPont family. The smoothing sound of the Italian Water Garden fountains and the ponds surrounded by trees changing colors, all made for a spectacular day. I have two dogs and we like to take them with us when we travel. Since I like to go to gardens to see the flowers and to historical sites, it is often difficult since many do not allow dogs. However, to my surprise there are some that do allow pets on a leash. The next garden I would like to visit is the Elizabethian Gardens near Roanoke Island in North Carolina.
