About the photographer
Debbie Misiag has loved photography ever since her grandmother gave her a Kodak when she was 13 years old. She soon became the photographer for all family events. But it wasn't until she started going to Colonial Williamsburg that she really began to take photography seriously and found pleasure in looking at subjects with the eye of getting the perfect photograph. Living less than four hours away from Williamsburg, she would make 4-5 trips a year, making sure to go each change of season to capture the tulips at their peek, the pumpkins at the Saturday farmers' market, the Christmastime wreaths and candles in the windows and the fox gloves, crepe myrtle and sunflowers of the summer. After being encouraged by a dear friend named Kelly to share and sell her photography at art shows, she began to create items with a different purpose and soon found that not only did taking the pictures please her, but they also made others smile. Now after five years of selling photography locally in Columbia, Maryland, Debbie has created another way to share her photography. It brings her great pleasure to know that her work is displayed and enjoyed by others.
Since Debbie loves to travel, she finds new places exciting to visit and loves to explore all the possibilities to share her work in different mediums. She has moved from just matting her photography, to creating note cards and mugs, to placing her photographs on cutting boards, furniture, tiles and other items.
Her new favorite place to take photographs is Charleston, South Carolina. The beauty of the water, historical housing, the iron gates and flower boxes all make it a fantastic place to take photographs.
Debbie grew up in Southern California and has lived in four states and has traveled to 34 states and 11 countries and several islands. She has a son, daughter in-law and daughter and is currently an Instructional Facilitator for the Department of Special Education in a school system in Maryland. She enjoys traveling, taking pictures, decorating, reading historical fiction and walking.
